Accelerated Academic Progress

Tuition provides the opportunity to address misconceptions and target gaps in a student's understanding, as well as extending their learning. As sessions can be tailored to meet their learning style and target their individual needs, tutoring can promote accelerated progress. Many teachers report greater participation in class and studies have shown that tutoring can increase test scores by 12%. 90% of academic studies show that tutored students perform better than those without tuition.
Promoting a Growth Mindset

Intelligence and academic ability are not fixed, they can be developed and nurtured. By developing a growth mindset, students can become more resilient, focused on their effort and own achievement rather than comparison against others.
In its simplest form a growth mindset is about changing a student's thoughts from "I can't do this" to "I can't do this yet".
Throughout tuition sessions, I encourage students to evaluate and reflect on prior learning, draw attention when effort has led to success and give useful feedback to develop their understanding further. A growth mindset will provide each child with a love of learning and resilience that is the basis of success in the world of work and in life.
Bespoke programmes based
on interests and needs

It is human nature to learn and even as adults we are constantly learning: learning how to be better at work or at our hobbies. We learn best when it is purposeful and engaging.
Our children are the same. They are always learning new skills, how to improve at the games they play as well as everything they learn at school.
At SBT Education, I find links between what a student learns for fun and what they need to learn at school in order to make formal education more engaging, relevant and purposeful.
Balancing Mental Health with Academic Challenge

Getting good results in school can open doors to different careers, as well as preparing your child for adult life. However, increased testing and pressure to succeed has placed greater stress on today's students. Recent statistics from the NHS show that 1 in 8 children will suffer from behavioural or emotional problems growing up.
Whilst stress and anxiety caused by school are negative, success in school and learning new skills can reinforce positive self image and promote positive mental health.
Working for five years in a mental health education setting, alongside a clinical psychologist and educational psychologists, has allowed me to develop my skills at balancing support and challenge.
